Official notice has just been received from Caltrans that a project to install three passing lanes on Highway 89 between Sierraville and Truckee has been approved and funded. Caltrans will go out to bid on the project this year, with construction expected to happen in 2017.
The passing lanes will be constructed on the grade going out of Sierraville, heading south on 89, and on the Little Truckee summit and on the Sagehen summit.
“This project has been in the works for 17 years, and is finally going to happen,” said Sierra County supervisor, district 3 Paul Roen.
